Michael Field’s Stella Gardens is an intensively planted perennial fruit and annual vegetable garden that was designed to teach young farmers the fundamentals of soil health, garden biology, and successive rotations.  This internship runs from mid-March through October 31, Monday through Friday, 8am-5:30pm, and requires short chores on weekends. Interns assist the garden manager with the daily tasks of greenhouse sowing and management, building raised beds, hand sowing, transplanting, irrigation, weeding, pest management, harvest, post-harvest handling, and perennial propagation, planting, maintenance, and harvest.  The majority of this work is done by hand to build strong bodies and an intimate understanding of the importance of healthy soil.  The vegetables and fruits from Stella Gardens are marketed through an on-site farm stand and farmer’s market, and sold to local schools, CSAs, and other businesses.
