Doug Gunnink

Doug Gunnink’s goal in life was to teach others how to raise high quality grass for grass-finished beef and dairy. He was one of the first to push rotational grazing. He and his wife, Janet, founded the Gunnink Forage Institute after many years of answering the question, “What does it take to raise choice grass-finished beef?” Doug, Janet, and their two sons, Zach and Andy, raised organic grass-finished beef on 170 acres of land near Gaylord, Minn.

Doug had a long history in the organic world, starting with his work as Organic Valley’s first dairy inspector. He was a founding member of the MOSES Board of Directors, serving from 2000 to 2002. The Gunninks also organized the Minnesota Organic Conference until the Minnesota Department of Ag took on management of the conference.
